Artist Statement:
"Everyone in this world is born the same. We have gone through the same stages of development. Remember, we all scribbled when we were kids? We all have imperfections. Those who accept their imperfections and have the wisdom to look beyond the imperfections are the ones that reach for the stars.

Many feel that one has to be perfect but I think imperfections are not obstacles but opportunities for learning. They make you unique and beautiful. Not everyone in this world may be a superstar but everyone is a star at something."

Artist Biography

Hi! My name is Adrit Pradeepkumar, but you say it like Add-Writ. I'm nine-years-old, and I live in Washington state. That's where I live with my mom, my dad, my big brother Pranit, and my dog, Neo!

Lots of things give me ideas for music. The ideas come when I go see new places, or when I read books, or when I learn new things, or when I hear stories from my mom and dad and my teachers. I make music because it helps me show how I feel inside. Music is a special way to show how I see and feel and hear the world around me. It's easier for me to show how I feel about something with music than with just words.

Adrit Pradeepkumar Piano Recital

When I make music, I use my piano, and sometimes I use paper and a pencil. But the most important things I use are my brain to think of the music and my fingers to make the music happen! I make little tiny pieces of music and then I put them all together to make one big song.

I think the world is super pretty and people are super nice! All of those good feelings can go into music notes, and then everyone can listen and feel happy. When I see something really cool that I can't stop thinking about, I try to write about it or make it into a song. With music I feel like the world is a safe place and every new day can be even better than the day before!

Meet the Artist

Artist Interview

Adrit shares more about his life, inspirations and the advice he has for other student artists.

Tell Us More About Yourself

"I like playing chess, tennis, and basketball. I also really like watching my favorite shows and playing games on my Nintendo.

At school, my favorite thing is Math! It's so much fun. I love solving math puzzles, it's like playing a game. When you finish a math puzzle, it feels like winning the end of a game! And the best part is, your teachers and your grown-ups let you play the math game for as long as you want!"

What Advice Do You Have for Other Artists

"I think art is super cool because it helps you show how you feel inside, but in a new way! It's like a bird getting an extra wing so it can fly to a whole new world. My mommy found out I loved music when I was just three years old. I tried lots of stuff, but making music made me feel the happiest!

If you want to try art, the best way is to just do it! Try music, dancing, singing, and all sorts of things. You'll see that they make you feel so good, and you'll want to keep doing them as much as you can!"

Why Students Should Participate in Reflections

"I've been doing Reflections since I was in Kindergarten. Reflections is like a big stage where you get to show off your super cool art skills. We all have special talents that we don't always learn from books or at school, and Reflections helps you show those talents.

Reflections has a special theme every year. The theme helps you think really hard and show what you understand about that theme in the art you pick. For me, that's music! And every year the theme is different, so you get to try new things and show your talent again. Sometimes the new theme makes me feel even more excited, and it helps me make even better art! I think Reflections is super good because it helps all of us young artists feel brave and happy about our art."
